Personally I think this smacks of the Big M putting another kerbstone in the path of people who might like to roll out OS X.
'Of course, we'd love to let you have a Mac, it's just that as we've spent a truck load of cash on new PC's with Vista and Office 07, it's just, y'know...'

Many thanks. I'd have done it for you, but I'm not a mod in the Comments forum.

If Open Office can release an open document XML format that works on Linux, PC and Macs, why is it that M$ with thousands more developers cannot?
This shows why the Microsoft format should not be adopted as an International Standard, because it effectively allows them to leverage their monopoly power in support of one of their other products. A completely open system would mean if they couldn't write the code, someone else would release it for them, benefitting all users of all OSs.
Microsoft's position smacks of "if we can't do it, we won't let anyone else do it either, so there!".
God, they can be childish....

Well Open Office was developed by thousands of developers, just that they were doing it for free, most likely in their spare time. You are right that it does not say much for Microsoft programmers.

Also how are we to know that they will not altered their version to make Open Office imports harder. _________________ I am still writing my autobiography at the moment and I expect it to be finished in late 2016. I think that I now have enough for a second volume.
