I note a worrying trend or web sites to provide a "Contact Us" page which offers a form to fill in.
That is great BUT how does the originator know exactly what he/she sent or if it has been received?
I recently ordered a device from one of PCPro's advertisers and received no acknowledgement, copy of invoice or any other indication that it had been received.
Then I received a payment receipt from PayPal which told me that some of my money had gone somewhere.
I have since contacted the vendor and they seem genuine so we will see what arrives tomorrow!
Surely these web pages should automatically send an acknowledgement with a copy of the original message.
Comments?

Its a standard form on a lot of wizard built web pages that the creator will set up to point to their own wmail address.
it is entirely at their own discretion how they choose to manage the replies etc.
Certainly on my own contact us page, I have a specific email address set up to receive the queries, I then have my mail server configured to auto respond to the sender stating we have received the email and will action it within 2hrs etc.
I would see it as good etiquete and a must for building confidence in your customers, something you seem to have lost (quite rightly IMHO) with this vendor. _________________ System Error... Please reboot universe. |

The E Commerce Directive is quite unambiguous about this.
* You must display the name of your business and your geographic address on your website – a PO Box address is not sufficient
* If you are a registered company, you should show your company registration number and if you are VAT registered, your VAT number should also appear
* Where you show pricing, this must be unambiguous and include details of whether VAT, taxes and delivery charges are included
* You must make your Terms and Conditions available for buyers to view
* You must acknowledge all orders received
* If you are a member of a professionally regulated body, institution or recognition scheme then your registration number should be displayed
* When sending commercial communications by e-mail, whether unsolicited or not, you must ensure they are easily identifiable as a commercial communication; visibly show who the communication is from and make sure that any promotional offer being made is clear and any conditions are made obvious, for example a closing date for a discount offer.
Complain to Trading Standards is a possibility |

Thanks for that. Seems they had a problem with their website.
Sounds credible and the items were eventually delivered OK

| You can usually use "print screen" to take a copy or use Scrapbook to save the page if you use Firefox. |

Thanks for the tip about Scrapbook.
Yes I use Firefox and like it so am trying out your suggestion.
Sorry or the delay in replying, but I am not receiving notifications of forum messages even though I have ticked the right box.

| As far as I know, you just get email notification of messages (PM, or personal messages), not replies to a post on the forum. |
