Bringing this one back from the depths as it sets out how to treat any spam you may see in these forums

Don't really see any point in repeating what it says - mainly 'cause I'm so lazy

*Edit - Just found out that I can sticky the thread, so I did

Is there a reason we've been advertising Ugg Boots/North Face in the Overclocking and Meeting Place forums for the past week? [check lifengsale 9 Sep] (Didn't want to post a 'rhubarb' on them as Greemble gets upset..... )

Yes there is a reason.

And a really good reason too.

I missed them

- Somehow they were not showing as new posts to me. :?

Got them now
- As no-one replied to them I could delete very easily and without mercy

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

More Spam here lately than in Monty Python's café. Can be difficult to find the real posts amongst it all.

What spam? I don't see any...

Sorry, but we cannot be on here all day, every day - what you saw this morning is a small fraction of the stuff we are clearing daily and just recently the forums have been hit by the same two/three spammers which use different logins, via proxies, everytime. Therefore banning them & their IP doesn't help either.

I hope you didn't think I was complaining about the moderation of the site in any way. Its the spammers themselves who my ire is directed at.

Fair enough.

Would be nice to have some way to make it more difficult for the spammers to log on, without being a pain for everyone else too.

That was a gentle advice. Well, i'm using signature only because it's allowed here I suppose. Don't consider me as spam :P

Well, it's not that straightforward. Wearing a link in your signature is something that on this forum is rather earned through contributing first. Every week there are tens of new users here who pretend to write something on-topic, but they're only here to advertise.

It may seem a bit harsh, but if we didn't take those measures, by now there would be noting worth reading on this forum.

Hope you don't mind these rules. Otherwise, enjoy the forum.

Wow - it's strange reading something you typed and not remembering it, I certainly had my moderator hat on ;)

*Waves back*

It's somewhat quieter here these days, just see the dates on the postings...

Can anyone tell me which is the limit for a comment not to be considered spam?
What is spam?
If I post a comment and my signature appears in the forum means that I spam?
Thank you!

As it happens, we consider spamming exactly what you have done. Appearing on forum without any contributing posts and using signature links to advertise dodgy websites. Also, for that reason, your other post has been deleted altogether.
