Re: Queries and Comments Please on Reference Library

I read with interest your comments on the Library and that it should go Wiki
However, I have never been there and do not know the first thing about it
So I asked Mr Steve if he would consider helping me on the subject and was there a cost involved.

Sadly I am still awaiting a response

May I ask do others feel that is where the Library should go, and if so would they consider assisting etc.

Thank you
But totally confused by that page
Can I post .doc files for example and how do I set up a Library there

Is there no one who wishes to help

If so makes me wonder why I bother to post.

The Wikipedia page basically explains what a wiki page is, but doesn't really tell you how to make your own, this is true.
However, a quick Google will reveal a number of pages that give step-by-step instructions on how to make one and where to put them
Have a look here or here for a starting point.

Further being told to get lost, I know it is easy to criticize but another matter to be constructive.

In order to post in Wiki
I need the following:-

Will Wiki accept .doc files
What is the code language to create Links? Why?
Because the entries need an Index similar to the one which used to be in Help Forum and was fouled up by Dennis Tech people, also needs a comment file in order not to clutter up the Library.

Being an absolute novice with Wiki need help on creating the files i.e. do this then that.

In point of fact someone to hold my hand at all stages.

You as previously said do read the entries as 130,000 hits underline, but you have made it very clear that you do not wish it to be posted in the Help Forum, so you will have noticed that I have refrained from posting to comply with your wishes

I have offered them to the PCPRO magazine ,and I am certainly getting the message That is get lost.

An aside to Gremble it appears our era as long gone people today fail to understand that there are people or used to be, who will do things without wanting remunerating, nice knowing you.

As it would appear I do not merit help so this is my Swan Song Adieu

Why does a Wiki need to accept .doc files? PC Pro doesn't.

And we are not telling you to get lost, we are suggesting that a well thought-out wiki might be a more appropriate repository.

The best way to understand a Wiki in my view is to find some free Wiki space and start playing.

For example: http://www.wikispaces.com/content/wiki

I did post the tips in .doc format
Why did you think it was not accepted?

When I post here I can't post a .doc. I type into a box. If you can post a .doc there is a very special arrangement made for you. Of course I could open a Word document, copy & paste. Or are you saying some previous version of your library was in a .doc format on the PC Pro forums?

No you are correct my mistake
I wrote all the tips etc. in word.doc and yes I copy and paste into the box as you said.

Still that does not solve my problem of assistance in setting up three Wiki Linked accounts
I do not relish the thought of searching and discovering how to implement all that.

But worry not I have ceased posting in the Library so that should please those who prefer that

Not sure why you need three accounts, but no matter - I have given a link that has a step-by-step guide.

If you want, I'll set up an account using my .ac.uk e-mail - it'll have no ads & you can edit & add to it as you wish, without it being publicly editable

Why is it that is always you that offers?
I was hoping that I would prompt someone else who just reads and does not post.
You may be interested to know that Mr Steve sent a pm and then changed his mind and deleted before being rea.
Wonder what he had to say, makes you think does it not?

I'm getting rather tired of this. For goodness sake stop being so sensitive and precious! You seem to be forgetting the basic tenet of these forums - that if you don't know, have no experience of, or cannot help with an issue - you do not post.

For someone who has spent the last X years researching and posting advice, you seem most reluctant to take any offered and work through your own problem/project?

Ouch!!!
Consider yourself duly reprimanded Lindburgh

However, please recall I have been told to stop posting by the members and to go to Wiki and leave this forum alone, all that I am asking is if so assist me in going.

Some of us have said that we think a Wiki would provide a far better home for your hints and tips. If you truely care about them, their content and it's presentation, why not at least have a look and see what a Wiki can do?

You can post all you like here, I really don't care one way or the other. The Wiki advice is given not to get rid of you from here but because I genuinely think this is a poor medium for what you are trying to do.

Note that because Greemble has a .ac.uk email address, he has access to some things the rest of us don't. Mine went west when the Open University got rid of First Class and I won't get one back until I do another course.

However keep doing what you are doing if you prefer - but just don't complain if we don't all beat a path to your door or some of us are less than totally admiring.

BTW I also am surprised that someone who has put so much effort into their advice isn't willing to put a little more into investigating what several people have suggested might be a more appropriate format.

There was no such thing as computers when I was at University.
The computers of those days had 15 inch reels similar to the tape decks on the Pirate Radio ships, which I remember only to well
The broadcast cabin was so small that no one could pass behind the chair if you were sitting in it, and the take off reel was on the left and the take up reel on the right which if I remember correctly was at 15 inch per second.
One day when I was jockeying the take up reel jammed but the tape continued to roll off .
Would you believe the door to the cabin was on the left? No one could get in to grab the tape and I mistakenly broadcast a call for Quatermass ( A hero of Sci Fi at the time ). People were trying to hire boats to come and save us , subsequently the Coast Guard instructed us to broadcast there was no emergency , Shortly after they dispensed with my services I am still puzzled as to why?

Thank you for your comments I probably was being a big girl's blouse
Sorry for that.
Will follow yours an Greemble's advice.

Regards Lindburgh
