I've installed Windows 7 on my Touchsmart Laptop/Tablet jobbie and it really brings it alive. The multitouch build into Windows 7 and the new touch pack is excellent.

I think we will start seeing alot of touch screen tablets towards the end of year and next year I would bet all the Major manufactures will have one.

The Dell tablet will likely pitch the PC maker into direct competition with Apple, which is heavily rumoured to be preparing a tablet device of its own.

Well that looks like a one sided fight. Sorry Dell you will lose this one.
I am still writing my autobiography at the moment and I expect it to be finished in late 2016. I think that I now have enough for a second volume.

Web page coming soon!!! Due for release 11.23 am Thursday 15th June 2017 Approximately.

Have you tried Windows 7 with the touch pack? If you try both I would say it is a one sided fight, but not the way around you think.

Well after the hassles I've had with the iPhone and iTunes  I won't be buying an Apple one for sure.
At least I tried an Apple device though, not ready to try a Dell yet

I do not doubt that Windows 7 will be better, but the OS is a different matter than the hardware. Apple hardware is more desirable than Dell hardware if you ignore the price and OS. Dell will be competing with all the other budget manufacturers on price and that hampers Dell from offering a product that could be more of a challenge to any possible Apple tablet.

Early Days Yet!

"Apple hardware is more desirable than Dell hardware"

However given the current economic climate, Dells buying power and ASUS's determination throw in the total failure that was the "Mac Air" I am not so sure mere "perceived quality" will be enough to outsell quantity at the right price.

Personally I like to look past the glitz and am not sure what benefits Apple actually offers especialy after two weeks with an iPhone 3g thank god for 14 day satisfaction return policys!
Apple? Oh that'll be the new Microsoft right?

Dell already make "Tablet PC's" so this is not a complete leap in the dark for them.

Although the received wisdom is that Apple makes "more desirable" devices, this wil be at a price point where perceived value is important. I'm not really convinced that this Apple Tablet will happen, its sounding dangerously "mass market" to me.

Its not that clear from the article if this will be a fully-fledged "Tablet PC" type offering or a limited features gadget designed largely for on-screen reading.
The opening paragraph suggests its mainly a reader, but the article body suggest otherwise.

I am still not convinced that Apple will produce a tablet PC. There is not an exceptionally large market for them, though in a few years I can see the demand for a e-reader. Though with touch screens I suppose a mac tablet is a possibility.

JStairmand,

Thank you for evaluating Windows 7 and it's great to hear that you are enjoying your experience so much! If you are planning on purchasing Windows 7 when it is released it may be helpful to know you don't have to wait until October to reserve your copy of Win 7! You can pre-order your copy of Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Professional today. For more information, see the Windows 7 Pre-Order offer page here: {Link removed}

So having helped Microsoft by evaluating and recommending Win7 features, she wants to reward you by offering full price products! (The URL links to: "The reduced-price offer has ended. But you can still be one of the first to get Windows 7. Just pre-order it from the Microsoft Store." )

I prefer full links as well. As you say you have no idea whether the link is spam or a phishing site. Though some of the forum members do use the <url> tags.

I don't think Apple products are desirable at all. There is now far too much stigma attached to them (like being gay in the fifties) from the utterly out of hand fanatical, zealot, fan boy word of mouth that passes for marketing. Secondly there is the locked in business model which forces users to purchase software or media directly using the device and makes it difficult to use third party items.
Any consumer drone that thinks apple is cool is totally uncool, it's the same with mini's, consumer drones use these "iconic" products as a shortcut to being cool, it's a shortcut to being massively in debt.
At the end of the day Apple sell phones, mp3 players and PC's like every other technology company. For some unfathomable reason consumer drones "need" apple products and it is the continuation of the end of (y)our "society".
