The latter, in particular, can check that a user's public profile matches what's stated on their job application, and that any recommendations added by other LinkedIn users match with the skill-set being claimed by the candidate.
LinkedIn might not be as sexy as Twitter and Facebook, but in the fickle world of social media it does appear to have staying power. Consultants and small agencies in particular should find it a useful route to new business.
