This is the second generation of the touch music player and, just one year on from the original release, there are only a few improvements and additions. It's a little thinner than the last one, has a hardware volume control, a Nike+ receiver so you can use it as a running companion, and a loudspeaker.
Other than this, it's a very similar device to the original touch - and there's no disputing it's a lovely piece of design. That 480 x 320 touchscreen is fabulous - the best here for watching music videos and TV shows - and sound quality isn't bad either.
The touch interface is as responsive and easy-to-use as it is on the iPhone, while the Wi-Fi capability and web browser turn it into a capable mobile internet device when you're in the vicinity of a Wi-Fi hotspot or your own home network.
There are some odd omissions, though: you get no FM radio or voice-recording facility, for instance. Plus, at a whopping £289 inc VAT for the 32GB version, it isn't exactly cheap. However, if you really want to impress someone this Christmas, it's the most luxurious way to go.
