For the past 12 months, an Esprimo has held the A List's Business PC position, and the E5916 is arguably Fujitsu Siemens' best business PC yet, thanks in no small part to the switch to Core 2 Duo. This CPU brings it in line with the vPro platform, and as the image will be stable for at least 18 months it will help to smooth the process of integrating new machines at a later date. Fujitsu Siemens has gone to great lengths to make the Esprimo range "green", which involves using components that are the least damaging to the environment, and making sure the machines are economical in their power consumption. And the Core 2 Duo E6600 is efficient, too, contributing to the relatively low idle power consumption of 75W. Of course, this CPU is a great performer, and the overall 2D benchmark score of 1.40 proved the fastest here and is perfect for most apps. Two 256MB DDR2 DIMMs occupy half of the memory sockets, leaving room for expansion. The hard disk is adequate for business use at 80GB; it's split into a 20GB Windows partition and a 55GB data partition. At the front is a CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive. Sliding the lid off reveals all the components, but while maintenance is tool-free it isn't the easiest of the PCs on test. The power supply's short cables have to be unplugged before it can swing up to give access to the hard disk, but it's a minor gripe. Four low-profile slots include two PCI and a PCI Express 16x slot. Security is enhanced by a TPM 1.2 chip, although there's no software included to take advantage of this. But at this price, the E5916 is faster - and cheaper - than the competition here. Add the near-silent running, vPro support and the three-year on-site warranty - albeit with a 48-hour response time - and the E5916 beats the rest to claim the A-List slot. Sponsored Links
