Buffalo corrals storage for the home network with LinkStation Live 11:50AM, Monday 8th January 2007
Buffalo Technology bringing network attached storage (NAS) devices into the home, with the launch of LinkStation Live.

Aimed at consumers storing and sharing large amounts of digital content around home networks, the Buffalo devices are available in 250GB, 320GB, 500GB and 750GB capacities.

The LinkStation Live Multimedia Storage Server includes multimedia features such as an iTunes server, allowing iTunes7 software to access music files saved on the LinkStation Live for playback. A Direct Copy function enables files to be transferred directly onto the device from a digital camera or USB flash drive.

Getting more detailed, the spec includes a Marvell Media Vault processor,

DDR-II Ram and a high-speed SATA drive, with Buffalo claming throughput rates of up to 35MB/s.

The DLNA-compatible units are priced at £106 ex VAT for the 250GB model (HS-DH250GL), £132 ex VAT for 320GB (HS-DH320GL), £187 ex VAT for 500GB (HS-DH500GL) and £366 ex VAT for 750GB (HS-DH750GL). They come with a limited two-year warranty and should be available before the end of the month.

'The LinkStation Live has been designed to address the consumer's continual need for speed when streaming digital content around a wireless home network,' said Morikazu Sano, senior VP of global sales and marketing at Buffalo Technology. 'However, when it comes to realising the digital home concept, why should users be forced to stick to one manufacturer? It would be unrealistic, which is why Buffalo encourages interoperability between PC and consumer electronics products by embracing the DLNA certification.'

Network-attached storage devices are stand-alone dedicated storage units that are available for access from a network, as opposed to a filestore on a server, for example.
