Epilog:
Even if this isn't true, I have an even bigger worry. EDF is Électricité de France. In other words, the French power company, still largely owned by the French government. Now, due to a rash of blinkered thinking for the last 20 years, we appear to have no new nuclear power stations in the UK, and we could really do with a few right now. The French, by comparison, have been happily building a nuclear infrastructure that is very comprehensive and supplies the majority of the needs of Those Peeps Over There.
So why am I not surprised to find that our esteemed government seems to think that it's a damn good idea to sell off what's left of the UK power-generating industry to EDF, making us entirely beholden on Les Parisiennes pour Le Voltage? And our 4am Dynasty?
And what will happen in a few years' time when France needs extra Les Amps, and EDF decides to strangle the supply to Les Pommes? I'll phone the emergency number and doubtless will hear: "Vous avec un problemme. Oh la la. Merde. Le tough luck, monsieur. Bon soir!"
