The SyncMaster is a 19in TFT model, and has a native resolution of 1,280x1,024. Unfortunately, it only has a D-Sub analogue input rather than the better quality digital DVI connection, which is a shame, especially for a monitor that costs over £300.

Unlike other 19in TFT monitors, the Samsung doubles as a TV. A built-in analogue TV tuner lets you watch the five terrestrial TV channels. It's a pity it's not a digital tuner though, which would have given access to the 30 or so Freeview channels. Niggles aside, the auto scan function quickly found all five channels and its

Plugging in an external video source, such as a digital Freeview box, is easy. The Samsung has a SCART input, a standard composite input and an S-Video input. Just plug everything in and select the input you want via the remote control. The PIP, or 'picture-in-picture', function is a handy feature. It allows you to watch either the TV or one of the analogue inputs while using the Samsung as a PC monitor.

The 910MP provides excellent image quality. We saw no evidence of banding in our greyscale test, and colours were reproduced with similar accuracy. A speedy response time of 8ms meant that even fast-moving games such as Doom 3 looked fantastic, with no smearing or ghosting.

The Samsung is a lovely piece of kit - and the fact that it works as a standalone TV is an attraction. But it's pricey. For the same money, you could buy a decent 19in TFT as well as our Best Buy digital TV tuner and get access to 30 TV channels rather than just five.
