Verdict:
Loud, musical, crisp, expensive - but stunning value nevertheless.
Expletives don't cover the reaction these speakers get. The loudest we've seen, they can be cranked up to top volume with almost no distortion. Clarity is exceptional, on a par with expensive hi-fi speakers. Five separate amps drive high-quality cones, with stunning results. Their wide frequency range is ideal for HRTF, where psycho-acoustic modelling is used to make audio feel like it's coming from behind you. The subwoofer only handles very deep bass, so positioning isn't as critical as usual.
A tone filter allows vocals or mid-bass to be lifted, depending on what you're listening to. They're pricey, but worth it. The only drawback is that they'll make your hi-fi sound wimpy!
For DirectSound 3D gaming and music, the VideoLogic system is stunning value, even at its relatively high price. No doubt a few hi-fi companies will be wincing.
