An emergency floppy is created when you install VirusScan, but since it uses the hard disk copies of the Windows 95 system files, this places the onus on the McAfee scanner to spot if they are already infected. When you restart, VShield will be loaded, and will scan for viruses in real time, as files are accessed or ownloaded. The ScreenScan utility checks the hard disk, floppies and even CD-ROM discs, while the system is idle and the screensaver in operation. This rather clever feature increases the level of security without affecting performance of your system. You can adjust the settings through a new page that McAfee adds to the Display Properties. If VShield or ScreenScan encounter any problem files, they will raise an alert and prompt you to run VirusScan to repair the damage. You can also run VirusScan on demand to scan a diskette or a downloaded file. If you have Microsoft Plus! installed, you can use the System Agent to schedule regular scans.
