That's less than three before Microsoft plans to stop selling all but the Home edition of XP, in an effort to encourage users to adopt Vista.
However they may be tempted to wait for Windows 7, after Microsoft founder Bill Gates recently said would be available "sometime in the next year or so". Microsoft stressed that it has made no changes to a schedule that sets a 2010 date for Vista's successor, so the most that can be expected before then is a beta release.
