Casio QV-R4   [Computer Buyer]
COMPANY: Casio PRICE: £325(£381)
RATING: ISSUE: 140  DATE: Nov 02

Packed with features and very compact, this camera looks good on paper and feels good in the hand.

Image Quality

But it's distinctly average in this department, tending to take snaps a little cold and blue during some indoor shoots. Its automatic shutter speeds weren't always optimum, and for a 4-megapixel camera it should have

been able to produce sharper results.

Features

The Casio comes with no less than 33 preset settings for different scenarios, including candle-lit scenes and even situations where you can take a photo of something and then include yourself in the photo. Each one is accompanied by a miniature sample picture, which is excellent for non-technical photographers.

Design

This is a well-designed camera. A simple dial lets you get to the most important settings, and finer adjustments can be made using a sub-menu. There are plenty of small buttons for changing flash modes or choosing burst mode and so on. Combined with an compact metal body, this is an attractive model that everyone will be eyeing up on Christmas day.

Overall

This lovely-looking camera is slightly let down by its image quality. If you can find one for £100 less and are prepared to adjust its settings to compensate, then go for it.
