The Athlon XP was the tiniest little bit slower than the Pentium 4 in the 3D and Office tests, and little bit faster in the multimedia benchmark. But while performance differences between these two high-flying processors in our tests aren't eye-catching, the price difference certainly is. With virtually identical performance to the 2.53GHz Pentium 4, the Athlon XP 2200+ weighs in no less than four hundred quid cheaper! Get a hefty heatsink for it, though, as Athlons can get pretty hot.
