Verdict:
Tum ti tum... nope, still going... Great value, but it's slow and only works from your own PC.
Carbonite is another program that tries to make backup as simple as possible, in this case via the Internet. You just install the software and tell it which folders you want to back up, and it keeps those folders (helpfully marked with a blue dot) synchronised with the copy on its online servers. It couldn't be easier, and you get unlimited storage space for £2 a month, which is extremely reasonable.
But there are a couple of catches. The initial full backup is slow: as we write this, ours is still going; we started it yesterday. Yawn. And because the service uses bespoke software (which conveniently makes your backup location appear as a virtual drive in My Computer), you can only access your data from your own PC, not from wherever you may happen to be. Fine if you just want secure offsite backup; not so good if you might want to be able to get to your data when you're on the road.
