In many ways the S6500fd is a typical superzoom. It has a workable 10.7x lens that starts at 28mm for wide-angle photography. Performance is acceptable at around two seconds between shots, although continuous isn't much faster. It uses the same sensor as Fujifilm's F20, which excels in the budget category but is average among the superzooms on test. The lack of stabilisation makes it hard to get sharp handheld shots at full zoom. However, the trump card is its superb ergonomics, with dual lens rings for zoom and focus that make it feel more like an SLR than a compact.
