One of the striking features of this test was the fact that speed rating was no real guide to performance: some 85Mbit/sec parts were actually faster than 200Mbit/sec products. We were, however, still a bit shocked when Lindy's adapter - a 200Mbit/sec unit - clocked up transfer speeds that were far and away the slowest in the test. Transferring our 500MB test folder took a massive 37 minutes - even surfing the web felt sluggish (and we were looking at plain, old www.amazon.co.uk, not some effect-heavy multimedia site). We were also disappointed to discover, yet again, that this 200Mbit/sec part would not talk to other supposedly compatible products. In other respects, the Lindy adapters were all right: setup was simple, the software utility allows you to secure your network easily, this price buys you two adapters, and so on. But until Lindy does something about performance, there's no way we'd recommend you buy these devices.
