Our 50 text pages appeared from the Epson in just over two minutes, very nearly matching its claimed output with a tested speed of 24ppm. No wonder the AcuLaser appeared to run so warm! In common with almost all the printers here, pages were commendably crisp and black. Colour was less impressive, with the hi-res pictures in our photo test faring particularly badly. Images looked faded and lacked definition in both highlights and shadows. While its speed - and low running costs - make it a credible general purpose workhorse, the Epson's lacklustre colour imaging will limit its appeal. It just missed out on four stars. SPECIFICATIONS:
