The Lenovo ThinkPad X60s' tiny size makes it arguably even more desirable than the MacBook, at least if you squint. It's incredibly slim and light, and its no-nonsense black finish is appealing. The joystick mouse controller is more accurate than the HP's, and the keyboard's keys are a reasonable size considering the laptop's tiny footprint. The only real compromises are the
The screen has an office-friendly matt finish, and while it could be brighter, colours are vibrant and evenly spread. To save space, there's no built-in CD or DVD drive, so you'd need to carry a USB-powered external drive to watch films (or to install software from disc). An external drive puts a strain on battery life, so the ThinkPad could only manage one hour and 48 minutes of DVD playback in our tests. The ThinkPad does have three USB2.0 ports, a reasonable 80GB hard disk and an SD card reader. Like the HP, the Lenovo uses an ultra-low voltage processor which isn't as quick as the Intel Core 2 Duo. It's more than adequate to run Windows XP Professional, however. Light use battery life is fair, at over three and a half hours. If you need a tiny and light laptop to take with you, Lenovo's ThinkPad X60s fits the bill. Samsung's Q45 is far more powerful and cheaper, though. SPECIFICATIONS:
