It may be the most expensive on test, but the HP Photosmart D7360 is also the most user-friendly printer we've used, thanks to one ingenious feature: touch-screen control. It's the most PC-independent device of the group, and even the least computer-literate user will be reeling off sharpened prints with red-eye removed in no time at all. When this is combined with the memory card slots and PictBridge port on the front, and the simplicity of a flat paper input tray, we
The D7360 is also incredibly economical to run, with the six individual ink tanks all lasting for well over 200 photos. Along with the reasonable pricing for the individual tanks and the availability of value packs too, the D7360 works out at less than 30p a print - the only printer to do so this month. That certainly helps to make up for the higher purchase price. Print quality is superb, with excellent skin tones and vibrant colours. It can't quite match the Canon iP5300, and we noticed a slight reduction in detail in shadows and dark areas. It also can't match the Canon for speed, taking a nevertheless impressive 103 seconds to print a 6x4-inch photo. But it's still a very impressive printer, and the features have the competition beaten hands-down. Whether you're happy to spend over £100 depends on how useful you view the touch screen: if you print mostly using your PC, you'd be better off with the fantastic Canon, but otherwise this is a well-designed, top-quality printer.
