Unlike a standard point-and-click, the Canon looks more like a sawn-off video camera. The resolution is a standard 640x480. Three quality settings allow you to compress the images for storage. Picture taking was frustrating. There's no viewfinder, only the small LCD screen. And the screen goes black for 6 seconds after each photo. Not a camera for action photography. Picture quality was relatively good, the lens capturing a wide field of view. Definition was reasonable despite a slight muddy wash to the test shots. Fiddling with the exposure compensation control might improve this. The TWAIN driver enabled easy downloading. A mains power supply is provided too. The Ulead PhotoImpact editing software bundled is also on this month's cover disk. It's good, but £399's a lot of money to pay for a pedestrian specification. By - Keir Thomas SPECIFICATIONS:
