HP is back with Pentax again for the optics, and both the higher priced 935 and the less expensive 735 Photosmart cameras offer 3x optical zoom capabilities, coupled with 7x and 5x digital zooms respectively.
Both the cameras can be operated as point-and-shoot affairs, with settings automatcially managed by the camera. But more confident photographers can take manual control of setting exposure, white balance, colour, sharpness, saturation and contrast. There are even on-camera

'HP understands that consumers are looking for a digital camera that can grow with their digital imaging needs and experience,' said Tim Potter HP UK's Image Capture Category Manager. 'By combining sophisticated manual controls with on-camera help wizards, the HP Photosmart 935 digital camera is truly bridging the gap between traditional and digital photography and helping users produce the best images possible.'
The 935 has a 64Mb SDRAM buffer, so that multi-shot modes are possible, and bundles a 32Mb SD/MMC card. The 735 has these features but with half the capacities.
The cameras also boast movie capture with sound.
An optional (£59 inc VAT) docking station means you can print straight to a compatible printer, recharge the batteries and view images on a TV. If you buy the cradle with the camera, you save £10.
Software is supplied for photo managing and editing. The cameras and software are both Windows and MAc compatible.
