The camera-maker, which pioneered the idea of an articulated body for over-the-head shots is launching new models across its whole range, encompassing both high-end and lifestyle models.

The new Coolpix P5000 (pictured), positioned for the more advanced user, boasts a 10-megapixel sensor, and 3.5x zoom lens. The black casing textured finish is designed to give the impression that the

grip has a leather finish. A new mode dial provides access to 16 different scene modes and seven movie settings. It will retail for £329 at the end of March.

At the budget end of the scale, the L10 (price to be announced) and L11 feature compact bodies and resolutions of 5 and 6 megapixels respectively. Like the P5000, they feature 16 scene modes for speedy selection of the best pre-sets for a range of shooting conditions. They also have internal memories of 7MB each.

The full range runs through the S50, S50c and S500 'style' cameras, the L10, L11 and L12 'life' cameras, and the Coolpix P5000 'performance' model.

Nikon is also 'refreshing' the Coolpix brand. The name stays the same, but the logo sports a new font that the company says 'reflects the style, performance and cutting edge technology of the premium range'.
