The company claims its desktop will be just 1 litre in volume, a rather odd measurement for a computer, but Asus are being rather vague on the exact dimensions of the upcoming hardware. The only details suggest that it will be as "slim as a paperback novel".

Inside the case, the Eee Box bears a remarkable resemblance to its mobile cousin. The same Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz chip which can be fount in the Eee PC is used, alongside just 1GB of DDR2 RAM and an 80GB hard disk. Users also get a Gigabit Ethernet connection and 802.11n Wi-Fi.

Because of the low power of the device, Asus has gone with Windows XP as an operating system, taking Microsoft up on its offer to continue selling the ageing OS to vendors of low-power computers.

This specification is very similar to the Eee PC, but obviously doesn't include a screen and other peripherals, so should sell for a slightly lower price when it is released in mid August this year.
