RE: gmail two factor authentication. I have it enabled and it is OK for just accessing my email. But when my wife wanted to access her gmail account on my phone (she did not have hers) and I have not logged into her email account on my phone we could not get to her gmail.

@Iain, AFAIK the two factor authentication requires a mobile phone. That is a big problem, when you need to quickly check your mails, but don't have the phone with you, or no signal.

At home, it would mean running upstairs, waiting for a signal, then running back downstairs to log on...

@Paul
I can only agree Outlook 2010 is a great disappointment, and MS need to do something to bring it vaguely up to date.

Personally, Gmail to Hotmail is a backward step. Hotmail is still silently discarding emails it doesn't like. Also, a much easier way to import email into Hotmail would be to download Windows Live Mail, set up both Hotmail and Gmail, then drag messages across between the 2 accounts.

@Simon:
You're right, but this isn't a review of Hotmail - it's Barry's experience of moving from Gmail to Hotmail. I would love to do the same, but (after months of trying!), I simply cannot get Hotmail to deal with my old sent messages from Gmail. If Microsoft could iron out problems like that, I'm sure a lot of people would be willing to move (back) to them.

All the negative comments here are related to the transfer of mail and collecting mail from other accounts. I don't see why that should be taken into consideration when thinking about a migration. Surely you should be concerning yourself with the main application itself such as ease of use etc... on that page I think Microsoft's a sure winner!

I've used both for years, each have their pro's and cons.
I use Firefox as my browser of choice with NoScript, Request Policy, Ghostery and other similar extensions. I've not previously had any major issues accessing either email service.
However, recently I've not been able to sign into Hotmail unless I kid Microsoft into believing I'm using IE with the IETab add-on. I've contacted their CS/help (the online help is very basic, it seems to assume we're all basic level users), with no response so far.
I was wondering if its an attempt to steer users to a certain browser! Anyone else had similar issues?

Would love to hear about security. Google offers 2-factor authentication along with a easy way to see where your account is logged in. What protection does MS offer?
