Book Review: Crush It! By Gary Vaynerchuk
Gary Vaynerchuk is the Marmite of internet marketing: you either love him or loathe him. Personally, his over-the-top US Evangelist style is not remotely my cup of tea but that doesn’t mean he can’t be learned from. He’s best known these days as the man behind Wine Library TV which is an object lesson in how to use video to drive traffic to your blog and create a personal brand.
I don’t even know what “Crush It!” as a phrase actually means but that doesn’t detract from what is a point by point checklist for establishing an online brand and then building it via social media. This book is extremely practical, occasionally contradictory (he says you must first and foremost “love your family” whilst simultaneously working until 2am) and often challenging. You won’t agree with everything but you will be forced to think about what you’re prepared to do (and how hard you’re prepared to work) to make a success of your business online.
At only 140 odd pages, you can read it in a couple of sittings: just make sure you’re taking notes.
