The ZDNet report said that pivots were (or will be) a feature of Excel by the time it is released.

Given this is a limited technical preview, to a few thousand selected users (and not always the same people who are beta-testing Office 2010), some of the comments seem a bit churlish (such as the sparsity of features in PowerPoint or the read-only mode of Word).

What would have been much more interesting were impressions of how well it all works (well the bits that are there), performance and compatibility with Office 2007 / 2010 documents.

To the saving as xlsx or pptx, it is hardly a surprise, this is the web variant of the second generation of XML based office. It is also a technical preview, is it confirmed the release version won't be able to export to Office XP/2003 formats?

This is just a technology preview...

You can edit Excel and Powerpoint, but Word is still in read-only mode...

By the time it gets released, it should be a match for Google Docs (better in some areas and weaker in others).

I'm just wondering what they will do about macros and add-ins...

I can't see the point in essentially just being able to view office documents? I can use Open Office to view and edit them or if I really must use an online app, then I can view and edit in Zoho or Google Docs?
