Meet the Adamo XPS… from Apple?
Regular readers of our reviews section will know we drooled all over Dell’s Adamo a few weeks back. Its metal slab design, superb build quality and all-round bloody loveliness won over most of the PC Pro crew and even elicited reluctantly positive grunts from several of MacUser’s troops too.
So what’s this Dell is now teasing? (Click to enlarge)
Puzzlingly, it’s a new 9.99mm-thin Adamo XPS laptop that looks remarkably like a MacBook Air.
And that’s all we get. No info. No specs. Not even a full-frontal photo to ogle. The reason is that it’s merely a concept – the physical product might not even exist.
Released from Texas yesterday to mark the media’s obsession with the totally meaningless, entirely man-made 09/09/09 date, it’s a glimpse of what might come in the future. An even more streamlined Adamo with graceful silver curves to contrast with the existing model’s angular edges. Apparently it’s “as beautiful as today’s date is unique”. Right.
It looks to me like Dell trying to take on Apple by being more like Apple. Perhaps Jobs could have used it to liven up the lame presentation yesterday…

One is forced to wonder if they know of some non-unique dates. As distinct from special ones.

“to mark the media’s obsession with the totally meaningless” well PC Pro you’ve proved that quite conclusively.

Meaningless vapourware indeed, the date and width aside, the Mac book air ranges from 0.4cm at the edges to 1.9cm in the centre, so if the Adamo is to be 9.99mm at the centre, it will have the structural integrity of a cream cracker, unless it’s packed full of rare earth & meteor metals. The whole thing will need to be a heat sink with the option of heat haze. Save some money at time when we are recovering from a crunch, a crash and something called securitization and get yourself a windows 7 laptop (shortly) and do something productive. Let Mc Dell and Co pays their Ad agency for this crap, thus keeps creative types well stocked in triple espressos & Mac Pro’s.
