How to perform a hard reset of an HTC Touch Diamond2
You may, like me about five minutes ago, find yourself wondering how to perform hard reset of an HTC Touch Diamond2. And you may, like me, look at the manual online. But it turns out the manual is wrong. The way to perform a hard reset of the Touch Diamond2 is:
1. With the Touch Diamond2 switched off, press the volume up and down buttons simultaneously.
2. Keeping them pressed, use the stylus to briefly press the red soft reset button (you’ll have to remove the back of the Diamond2 to do this).
3. Release the volume buttons when a message flashes up to say, “This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. Press VolUp to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel.”
4. Press the volume up button.
Then sit back and relax while Windows Mobile 6.1 goes on its voyage of discovery to set up the device with the default factory settings.

A hard reset? That doesn’t sound good.
I’ve never had to reset a telephone, even my htc Touch Pro, which has been running for nearly 8 months now (switched off twice in that time, when going into locations where I couldn’t use a mobile)…
What caused it to need a reset?

My htc touch plus hasn’t required such drastic measures either.
Sometimes it goes a bit screwy, so the usual trick is to remove the battery while powered on, and then wait 30 secs before reinserting it.
This is standard procedure from T-Mobile.

Oh. I forgot to mention. Removal of the sim card is required too.

Just a quick note, while the forums are off-line. I’ve been on holiday this week and haven’t had my charger with me. The Touch Pro has been on 24/7 and was last charge on Wednesday last week.
I’ve phoned about 10 minutes a day on average and there is still 30% battery life left. Given that, when new, it was lasting less than 36 hours between charges, I’m nowmuch more impressed with it. (Probably didn’t help that I sometimes left WLAN and Bluetooth on
)

@big_D I’m assuming that you aren’t on holiday this week because the forums are offline?
Agree that WLAN is a particular killer, though it could be a problem when the phone was first charged. More likely you’re just using it less after the initial surge of excited ownership!
Out of interest, what do people think of HTC phones as a whole? Aside from the initial Touch Diamond, I’ve always been impressed.

The battery life seems to be getting better and better. Probably also helped with O2 finally putting an antenna up in the town where my girlfriend lived! I now get Edge and full signals, before I had to leave it on the window sill!
But even when I was at my place or work (full 3G signal), the battery life was poor to begin with…
As to the HTC phones, this is my first experience with one, after having used mainly Nokia for the past 2 decades. I had a couple of Motorollas, Ericssons and an LG, but always ended up going back to Nokia, they always felt better and worked better.
The Touch Pro has been excelent, although the glass has picked up a few scratches – something which wasn’t as noticeable on the old Nokia 6 series I had – could be because the screen is so much bigger.
I originally bought the Pro, because I wanted to keep a physical keyboard. But I find I use it less and less. It is useful for some things, like filling in forms on web pages, or Outlook contacts, so that you can still see the screen. But for SMS, and quick notes in One Note, I find I am using the onscreen keyboard more and more.
I like the Touch Pro, if that had come out a couple of weeks earlier, I would have bought that instead! :-S The new Diamond 2 and Pro 2 certainly look very interesting and I’ll be having a play when they come out – but we are stuck on 2 year contracts over here, so if I want to upgrade, it’ll cost me!
That said, my new employer uses Blackberry and as I am the new sys admin there, chances are I’ll be getting some form of Crackberry in the near future, as a company ‘phone…
(Oh, and I was on holiday while I needed to use up my leave from last year, before the end of March – got authorisation to take it in April, still didn’t have time, so ended up having last week as forced leave.)

Bleh! I meant I like the Touch HD, if that had come out a few weeks earlier…

It doesn’t work either, it’s not responding even though I followed your instructions

it works. remove sim and battery. leave battery outside for 1 min aprox. then put it back. keep pressed volum up AND volume down, and press POWER button. not the reset button inside the phone. tested unortunately…

Sad – your instructions are perfect! Take out SIM and battery. Leave battery out of phone for about 1min….replace battery. Keep the Volume up and down buttons pressed together, whilst briefly pressing the power button – worked a treat for me!! Can’t beleive they got it so wrong in the manual.
Cheers

This did not work for me. But the guide at http://www.hardreset.eu/htc_touch_diamond_2_hard_reset_soft_reset_en.html did work.
