All the week’s reviews

LenovoThis week the office activity has been dominated by the £250 Challenge, so PCs and laptops took something of a back seat in reviews. Still, we saw a fine business system from Lenovo, the ThinkCentre M58, which made use of the company’s fantastic desktop chassis. With everything accessible and removable in seconds, we wish consumer manufacturers would take note, and the Lenovo earned a deserved Recommended award.

HPAs far from the business side of things as we could get was the HP HDX16-1000, an entertainment behemoth of a laptop with an HD screen, Blu-ray drive and a TV tuner. It’s not very portable and battery life is as iffy as you’d expect, but for its sheer assault on the senses it’s well worth a look – and it’s not too expensive either.

ZotacOnto components, and we took a look at an overclocked edition of Nvidia’s most recent top-end graphics card in the form of the Zotac GTX 285 AMP! Edition. It’s still prohibitively expensive, but if you want to squeeze every frame per second from your gaming rig it’s right up there with the existing powerhouses.

KensingtonMuch more affordable was the Kensington Dual Monitor Adapter, another example of the DisplayLink USB monitor technology we’re desperate to make it big in 2009. The best thing about the Kensington is that it costs just £54 to turn any existing TFT into a USB display – perfect for squeezing more life from your old screens once you’ve run out of free video outputs.

Tom Arah delved deep into the latest suite of Articulate presentation software, with extensive reviews of Presenter 09 and Studio 09, along with a look at what’s  new in the smaller components QuizMaker 09 and Engage 09.

And in the business section we saw the Oki C810n laser printer for workgroups, Netgear’s ProSafe GS724TR Gigabit Ethernet switch, and the Fujitsu Siemens FibreCAT SX80 iSCSI IP SAN solution.
