Pantstooth?

Is it me or is Bluetooth pants?

Microsoft Presenter Mouse 8000 plus MacBook Pro = pants. Mac Mini Core Duo + HP rechargeable bluetooth mouse = pants (with NiCD AA’s in the mouse feels like it weighs as much as the computer!). Blackberry Bold + Tosh Tecra A6 + Blackberry Desktop Sync = pants (you have to take the Blackberry’s battery out to get it out of sync mode once it has paired!).

All the devices I like which are wireless, don’t use Bluetooth. My MS cordless mice that run for 6 – 9 months or more on a singe AA are non-bluetooth; last week I saw a desperately sexy Mitel VOIP phone in which there is no handset cord – it’s just DECT, not Bluetooth. You walk away from your desk with the handset, leaving the keypad and display on their on. Why is it DECT? So they get the battery life that telephone users expect.

The only bit of Bluetooth kit I rate at all are my Motorola A2DP headphones, though sadly the Z8 phone that has enough juice to actually drive them while it’s in your pocket, is so irritating to use as a phone that I went and got the Crackberry instead…

How can a technology that looked so promising, turn out to be such rubbish?
