Meet the Squeezebox’s big brother
We love the Squeezebox. That goes without saying. We love the Squeezebox Duet even more – when it comes to audio streaming its difficult to imagine a device as intuitive and gorgeous coming along to topple it any time soon.
But Slim Devices and Logitech clearly aren’t ones to rest on their laurels, as the audio streaming market has another segment they’re yet to conquer – that of the standalone Wi-Fi radio. Well, as of today Revo, Tangent, Terratec et al better be bracing themselves for a fight.
Meet the Squeezebox Boom.
It popped up briefly on Dutch audio website WifiMedia before it was hastily removed, and from what we can gather the Squeezebox Boom takes everything that was great about the old Squeezebox and slaps a chunky pair of speakers on either side.
It has 802.11g wireless, 3in woofers and 3/4in tweeters – hopefully enough grunt to lift it above most portable players – and was posted with a price of €279. That’s around £221 at current exchange rates but as usual you can expect a premium on that for us unlucky UK residents.
We’re currently badgering Logitech for a review sample but as it hasn’t actually been announced yet we’re left salivating in expectation with all the other Squeezebox fans. News will come your way as soon as we hear.
