Just in: a monster PC from Mesh
It’s fair to say that we were quite impressed by the Chillblast Fusion Juggernaut. A powerful 9800 GX2 graphics card, Core 2 Quad Q9450 processor and 24in Samsung screen certainly made an impression in the Labs – and it made everyone who saw it quite jealous. We all wanted one.
Except that I now have a feeling that the Juggernaut’s crown as top monster PC may be under threat. We’ve just taken delivery of the Mesh Ultimate XT9450 GTO and, well – to paraphrase the slogan of a particularly nasty meat snack – it’s a bit of an animal. As you can see, it’s housed inside a monolithic Cooler Master Cosmos, which is certainly a good start.
A quick peek at the specification reveals that there’s a few key areas where the Mesh may lose ground to the Juggernaut – or outpace it. The GPU, for instance, is a brand-new GeForce GTX 280 that we’ve reviewed today and been hugely impressed by, and there’s 4GB of 1033MHz DDR3 RAM. Both of these components are better, at least on paper, than their Juggernaut counterparts.
The processor is the same – the Q9450 – although the Juggernaut was overclocked, and the Mesh isn’t. The latest contendor, though, does include a Blu-ray drive; the Chillblast machine made do with a paltry DVD writer.
The Mesh also a 28in screen. Twenty-eight inches! Blimey.
Look out for a full review soon, and see if the Fusion Juggernaut’s title of A-listed Enthusiast PC is about to be unceremoniously stolen.

‘The Mesh also a 28in screen.’
I’ve never known where it originated or what it really means, but here in NI there’s a phrase ‘F*ck, the night!’, which is often used to express true amazement. It seems apt here lol

I have to laugh at this article syaing how fantastic these two high end pc’s( which they are) are and that “it made everyone who saw it quite jealous. We all wanted one.” and then the next blog you have about why pc gaming is killing itself, complaining about how much grahpic cards and pc’s in general cost too much!
Oh the irony! wont someone please think of the gamers!!!

Rikki: Different PC Pro members, different opinions – that’s what the blogs are all about.
If only you’d heard the argument we had over the GTX 280 review before it went online…

Using a 24″ at home and having seen 28″ in the shops, I’d rather stick with the 24″, to be honest. The 28″ doesn’t bring anything new to the mix, apart from a less sharp image – bigger area, same number of pixels.
If I was going from 24″ upwards, I’d go straight for the 30″ displays.
It is the same with the 22″ displays, I find them worse to work with than the 20.1″ displays, which use the same resolution.
The one nice thing, over here, is that almost all PCs are sold without a monitor, so you get to chose the exact monitor you want, to suit your needs…
