Despite the fact there’s no way I’ll be able to work at home for years (anyone who’s got young children will know exactly what I mean), I’m absurdly fascinated by home working – to the extent that I’ve started drafting some notes for a book on the subject. (Any browsing book publishers, feel free to email me large cheques now.)

It was the main reason I suggested to Citrix Online – after it approached us looking for ideas for a webinar – that we cover remote working as a topic. It’s a fairly natural fit, having four different products that either suit remote workers of their employers.

We finished the webinar approximately 45 minutes ago as I tap away on the train now, and aside from the inevitable technical difficulties – on this occasion, a phone not working properly – it seemed to go well. Most people stayed to the end at least, which is all I ask.

But it struck me just how far we’ve come in terms of the technology. I won’t talk about the GoTo family of products or this blog will suddenly sound sponsored, but just on the fact that you can now be online anywhere for a paltry £10 or £15 per month.

Even though I moaned about the Vodafone software in a previous blog, I’ll admit I miss that little USB dongle now it’s gone.

After all, if I had it with me here, I could have uploaded this blog entry straightaway rather than having to wait until I returned to the office…
