The ultimate desk accessory, literally
You may have seen a blog post from the other day that referred to a semi-circular projector screen that can envelop the user in an image – the jDome - which has seemingly endless possibilities in the realms of immersive movie-watching. Or, alternatively, immersive game-playing: imagine hiking through the jungles of Crysis, or battling through battalions of enemies in Call of Duty 4 with bombs exploding literally all around you.
One flaw quickly arose, though, and sparked debate in the PC Pro office – how would you play a game when you have to stand, surrounded, by the screen? The general consensus was that you’d need some sort of strap-on desk, on which a keyboard, mouse or laptop could be held and used.
Of course, this was a mere pipe-dream: an answer to a problem that, surely, will rarely exist, and one too silly to seriously contemplate. A bit like the jDome itself, in fact. Consider our surprised when that exact object of our fascination arrived, unannounced, in the PC Pro Labs.
It’s been created by the collection of geniuses down at Connect A Desk, and is the perfect answer to our semi-circular monitor-interaction needs. Not that we knew we had any, mind. Still, it’s a versatile piece of kit that has its uses – aside from entertaining the rest of the office – and is modelled here by yours truly just to show off the massive potential of such a well-designed device.
Imagine the situation: housework or home repairs have stilted your creativity to the point where dozens of Eureka! moments pass, daily, unused. Not any more! Strap on Connect A Desk and suddenly find yourself able to note down all those stunning ideas whenever they appear.
Or be able to stay connected to Facebook 24 hours a day. Imagine the speed at which you’ll be able to poke people back or comment on their very public relationship status change. Imagine the look of horror from people using Blackberries on the train: you’ll have the ultimate in comfortable laptop convenience, even when there’s no seats left.
The possibilities are endless. PC Pro has seen the future, and it costs $39.95 – around £20 – from Amazon. You’ll all be rushing out to buy one, I assume?
