When one monitor just isn’t enough…
This is Samsung’s 2263DX dual monitor, which provides not just 22 inches of TFT panel, but 22 and 7. The main monitor works just as normal by plugging straight into your graphics card, but its small seven-inch parasite instead hooks up to a spare USB port.
The smaller monitor can be repositioned anywhere on the perimeter of the larger thanks to a fancy stand bracket, and can even be removed altogether and used as a photo frame-type device.
There’s no separate power adapter, and no extra software to install – it automatically downloads and runs a cut-down version of the company’s UBSync tool, which has provided plug-and-play USB monitors for business use for some time now.
It will be launching any day now in the UK I’m assured by the fine folk at Samsung, and should be in Dixons for around £280 including VAT.
It should go down a storm in the PC Pro offices, where one monitor doesn’t seem to be enough for anyone. It’s often said that a second monitor can greatly increase productivity, but for us it seems to be a combination of some kind of nerd status symbol and a place to dump Facebook.

That little extra screen looks like an ideal place to put The Helicopter Game…

Cute idea. Can you plug about 20 of these in at once? – You could make a retro DIY disco lighting unit…I still think that for serious use you might as well just buy to 22″ monitors…or bite the bullet and get that lovely 24″ Dell Beauty.

Can you get the 7″ on it’s own?

Samsung said it would be selling the smaller monitor on its own, although there’s no details yet on pricing. I love the idea of having a small screen for RSS feeds, and I think that if it comes in cheap enough it will sell really well.

@Gindylow – yes, you can plug several in at once if you like, for a Minority Report-esque desktop.
